I always like to decorate the house according to what season we are in and over the winter holidays we were hosting 2 parties and so I wanted to step up my usual home decor and make a couple of nice winter decor pieces!
The first piece I made was inspired by a fall decor piece I had seen on Pintrest (of course!) that I tweaked a little to work for winter. I used a vase that I picked up when Plant World (in Toronto) was closing it’s store so they had everything on sale. In the vase are some glittery pine boughs, that I picked up at a local Dollarama, and pine cones, some of which were attached to the pine boughs and others are real pine cones that I’ve picked up over the years.
I wanted to get a natural looking ribbon to wrap around the outside of the vase. I was actually hoping I still had some of that thick burlap ribbon that Stampin’ Up! had a couple of years ago, but no luck so I got this ribbon which has a bit of sparkle to it from Michael’s on clearance.
For the other pieces I added, I used my die cutting machine and the retired Pretty Pines dies to cut out a couple of pine cones using Copper Foil and for the boughs I used some retired green glimmer paper.
Here’s the final piece…
I really like how it turned out and it didn’t take up too much room so it could be on the same table as all the food.
The other piece I put together was from another Pintrest image; I actually put the link to the website it came from on my Facebook page back in December. I wanted this to be a centre piece and used the tray from our coffee table, that I picked up at HomeSense, to start.
I also picked up some larger pine boughs and pine cones from Michael’s on clearance, along with some sparkly white and blue berries/balls from a local Dollarama and the vases came from Walmart.
I started by adding someĀ Dazzing Diamonds Stampin’ Glitter to 3 pieces of a Window Sheet by sponging onĀ Multi-Purpose Glue first. Once I’d secured these sheets into tubes with some tape they went around some white pillar candles I had and I slid them into the vases.
Then I placed the vases into the tray and to fill up the tray I cut apart the pine boughs as well as cut off the pine cones. Once I’d placed all the pine boughs around the vases I used a few of the large pine cones to fill in some of the spaces.
Finally I added in some of the sparkly white and blue berries/balls (whatever you want to call them) randomly around the tray to add a bit more colour and sparkle.
Both parties went very well and I even got a few compliments on the pieces that I made. I myself am really pleased at how they turned out and can’t wait to get inspired for some Spring decor pieces!
I hope you enjoyed my DIYs and if you would like to get an email whenever I post to my blog make sure to follow me!
