It’s a new month and a new year which means that there’s a new #simplestamping challenge from Stampin’ Up!
My designs tend to be more simple and not have tons and tons of layers to them usually, but even with that these challenges have been just that… challenging! To not be able to add some twine, Designer Series Paper or even some bling has definitely been tricky.
This month the challenge was to create a simple card for any occasion using ONLY stamps, ink and paper…. AND the stamp set needed to be a Sale-a-bration stamp set. With that said the obvious choice for me was the Lovely Lily Pad photopolymer stamp set!! I love lily pads and I love that this set is reversible, meaning that I can simply flip the stamp over for another option. In this case one side of the stamp will give you the lines of the lilies, etc. and the other side will fill the outlines in, so to speak.
For this card I decided that I didn’t want to use a Whisper White Notecards like I have sometimes in the past. This time around I decided to use Bermuda Bay cardstock as my card base and then just added a layer of Whisper White cardstock as my card front with no other layers. With Bermuda Bay as my card base I decided that I would use Bermuda Bay as one of my ink colours along with Pool Party to offer a lighter colour. I also like Pool Party for this card as it reminds me of the water.
Since the Lovely Lily Pad stamp set doesn’t have any phrases I went back and forth on whether I would choose something from another stamp set. In the end for the #simplestamping challenge I decided to only use the Lovely Lily Pad stamp set, so this card can really be used for any occasion.
I also thought that it would be fun to do some #simplestamping on the inside of the card as well. So I added another piece of Whisper White cardstock and stamped another small lily in the bottom corner.
Then with that card done I launched into another… Before I had actually even finished my initial card I had decided to step up this card a notch and create another card.
For this card I simply added to what I already had by adding a small strip of Bermuda Bay cardstock, a phrase from the Timeless Tropical cling stamp set using Tuxedo Black Memento ink which I then cut out using the Stitched Nested Labels dies and popped it up using Stampin’ Dimensionals. I also added 3 sequins from the Metallic Baker’s Twine & Sequin combo pack that can also be earned as part of Sale-a-bration.
There are other elements that I also could have added like the Metallic Silver Thread or Rhinestone Basic Jewels instead of the sequins or even a strip of the Lily Impressions Designer Series Paper to kick this up even another notch, but I decided to still keep it relatively simple.
I would love to hear what you would have added to step up this #simplestamping project, so post in the comments.
