Sports Themed Birthday Party

My youngest munchkin is now 12 years old! Holy cow! By this time next year I’ll have 2 teenagers… does anyone know a way to slow down time?! Anyway… It took my youngest a while to figure out what he wanted to do for his birthday. But he finally figured it out and we’re having a sports themed birthday party. A couple of years ago he wanted a basketball themed birthday. So as an ever hopeful scrapbooker, I saved what I used/created and was able to use some pieces for this year’s theme. I want to make my munchkins birthdays special… I also don’t want to break the bank doing it!

Whenever I can I pull from my craft stash. I also love a good free printable! And there are tons out there. It’s rare that I’m hard up to find some good printables, no matter what the theme.

Sadly I don’t have many sports themed stamps. I do still have the baseball themed stamp set that Paper Pumpkin had a couple of years ago. But that doesn’t help me this time around.

So for this year’s party I created a fun sports themed centrepiece using a few different printables I found. I also put a little something on the pillow boxes I’m using for loot bags. I think these are the last loot bags I’ll be putting together 🙁 I’m pretty sure teens roll their eyes at stuff like that… or is just my 15 year old?

Hopefully my youngest munchkin likes my interpretation of a sports themed birthday party. I still can’t believe he’s 12 years old!

I always use Stampin’ Up! cardstock when I’m using printables. The quality and colours can’t be beat! Stock up in my online shop!

Basketball Themed Birthday

It’s been a busy week getting ready for my youngest’s birthday party tomorrow. Even though we’re not hosting it at home (cause there are WAY too many boxes in my living room) there’s still lots to do. This year my little guy wants a basketball themed birthday party.

We definitely needed to be creative for this theme because I don’t have anything current or retired with basketballs. Fortunately I found some great patterned paper at Michael’s. And fortunately I have a pretty imaginative munchkin! He wanted to help design and create the boxes we’re using for our loot bags.

For the boxes themselves we used Calypso Coral cardstock and Tear & Tape Adhesive. And then he wanted 3 black strips across the front. So I used 1/2′ strips of Basic Black cardstock. Next we added some basketballs from one of the patterned paper designs. We had to do a little cutting to get at the full sized basketballs, but the 2 3/8″ Circle punch was the perfect size.

To finish them off we added a “thanks” “friend” from the recently retired Biggest Wish stamp set. This is one stamp set that’s definitely staying in my craft stash! I stamped them in Tuxedo Black Memento ink. Next I gave my youngest a couple of options. He chose to use the also recently retired Double Oval punch to cut out the “thanks”. And “friend” I trimmed down with my paper trimmer.

Of course I let him add the sentiments and fill the boxes. I think they turned out very nicely!

I still have some of that patterned paper left. So I’m going to use that to make a simple happy birthday sign for him. I have to have at least one surprise for his party!

I really hope his friends enjoy their basketball themed birthday treat boxes!
