Tropical Thank You Card

For this week’s Paper Craft Crew Challenge (PCC461) I decided I’d make a tropical thank you card. When I first saw this horizontal sketch challenge I was thinking of using ribbon or twine to make the lines for my design. But then I changed my mind. Here’s the sketch…

Tropical Thank You Card

What I decided to do was show off the Artfully Composed Designer Series Paper from the January-June Mini catalogue. The colours and designs in this pack are so nice. And you don’t need to add a lot of extra layers on top if you don’t want to. To start I chose the simple Evening Evergreen design and then fussy cut some of the leaves from another. If you have the coordinating dies then you can use those instead. Then to create my lines and stick with my tropical theme I embossed some strips of Crumb Cake cardstock using the Tasteful Textile 3D embossing folder.

The phrase comes from the Timeless Tropical stamp set from the Annual catalogue which I cut out using one of the Layering Circles dies. I decided not to use Stampin’ Dimensionals on this design. But I did want to add a little something more and so I added a few of the Faux Sea Glass Shapes that are so popular right now. Here’s my card…

Tropical Thank You Card

It’s been so long since I did one of these and I always have so much fun participating in these sketch challenges! They help me try different things and sometimes push me out of my comfort zone.

I really like how my tropical thank you card turned out. Check out one of my previous Paper Craft Crew Challenge designs here. And to check out all of this week’s entries head over to the Paper Craft Crew website.

Horizontal Sketch Challenge

With everything to get ready for the holidays I took a break from sketch challenges. Now that things have settled back down a bit I felt like it was time to get back into it. A couple of weeks ago I did Stampin’ Up!s #simplestamping challenge for this month. You can check that out here. This time I’m doing a horizontal sketch challenge from the Paper Craft Crew. Or as they’re calling it PCC410. Here’s the sketch for the challenge…

Horizontal Sketch Challenge

For my design I started with an idea that popped into my head recently. I was looking at the Paper Blooms Designer Series Paper from the Sale-a-bration catalogue and thought that the blooms would be easy to cut out. So I picked a couple of different designs that would work well with some of the larger blooms.

From there I picked my colour combination. I went with Night of Navy for my card base and Seaside Spray for my other main colour. I also thought it would be nice to throw in a little bit of Rococo Rose. Behind the flowers and patterned paper I decided not to stamp. Instead I used one of the Greenery Embossing folders on the piece of Seaside Spray cardstock. This embossing folder is a mini folder so I had to run it through twice to emboss the whole piece. For whatever reason I haven’t been doing as much with my embossing folders lately so it was nice to get back into it.

Here’s my card…

Horizontal Sketch Challenge

I love how the embossed Seaside Spray compliments the blooms from the Paper Blooms DSP. The “for you” on the banner comes from the Beauty Abounds stamp set. And I popped it up using some Stampin’ Dimensionals. I also added a few Rhinestone Basic Jewels for the other element of this sketch.

I also wanted to bring the flowers from the outside of the card to the inside of the card. So I stamped a small bloom from the Forever Blossoms stamp set inside using Seaside Spray ink.

Horizontal Sketch Challenge

This was such a fun horizontal sketch challenge. And I really like how this turned out! You can also check out the rest of the cards for this week’s Paper Craft Crew Challenge (PCC410) here.
