Monochromatic Christmas Card

I’m definitely getting into the Christmas spirit with my crafting! And one pack of patterned paper that I love for this time of year is the Winter Meadow Designer Series Paper pack. I’m so glad that Stampin’ Up! decided to keep it after last year’s Holiday Mini catalogue. The colours and designs are so pretty and it’s not you’re traditional Christmas paper. So for this design I wanted to show it off the paper and this design is a great one for creating a background. It’s also great for a monochromatic Christmas card!

So Misty Moonlight is the main colour for this one. And then on top of the Designer Series Paper I layered on a piece of Basic White cardstock. The sentiment is from the Christmas Labels stamp set and of course it’s stamped in Misty Moonlight ink. Then on top of that I stamped the pair of birds from the Winterly Tree Tops stamp set. I die cut it with the coordinating die and then sadly there isn’t a Misty Moonlight Watercolour Pencil, so I lightly coloured them with Night of Navy. And added a little more in certain spots for some shadows and depth.

Finally to finish it off, I popped up the birds with some Stampin’ Dimensionals. And then added a few Rhinestone Basic Jewels.

Shoebox Swap using Winterly Tree Tops

I’m finally starting on my Christmas crafting! Maybe I’ll even get my Christmas and Hannukah cards done before December! And it’s all starting with the card design for my team shoebox swap using Winterly Tree Tops. I just love these little birds from the Winterly Tree Tops bundle and it’s starting to get a little frosty around here so I thought why not make it a Christmas card. What’s a shoebox swap you might be asking… It’s similar to a regular card swap in some respects where you make the number of cards to match the number of people in your group. That way everyone gets one of each person’s card designs. But for a shoebox swap you prepare all the bits and pieces needed for people to make your card and you put them in a shoebox, or another container.

Our team swaps also have a couple of extra rules. One is that the products be current and no online exclusives… as much as we all love them the availability is somewhat unpredictable. So I’m featuring the two birds on a branch from the Winterly Tree Tops bundle. And that’s where I started with this design. I wanted to make them blue so I used my Pool Party Stampin’ Blends. Pool Party is also my card base colour and the ink colour for my sentiment from the Christmas Labels stamp set.

Behind my pretty little birds I have a piece of the Nests of Winter Designer Series Paper that coordinates with this bundle. I also dry embossed a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock using the Cane Weave 3D embossing folder. Then to match with the DSP, I added a Crumb Cake card mat behind the embossed cardstock as well as a little bit to frame the sentiment.

Winterly Tree Tops

I’m slowly working my way towards my Christmas crafting. And the Nest of Winter suite is a great one to ease in with. I can’t resist these cute birds! I especially love the Winterly Tree Tops dies that are part of this suite.

For this card I’m using the largest die in the bunch. So of course one of my colours is green. In this case, I’m using Garden Green. And my other colour is Crumb Cake for my card base. In between these two layers I have a piece of Basic White cardstock. On that piece I stamped some bud branches and some little flowers using Crumb Cake ink. The bud branches come from the Winterly Tree Tops stamp set. And the flowers are from the Layering Leaves stamp set.

On top of all that, I fussy cut a bird from the Nest of Winter Designer Series Paper pack. Then for my sentiment I pulled one from the Layering Leaves stamp set and stamped it in Crumb Cake ink. I die cut that with one ofthe skinnier Something Fancy dies. And both got popped up with some Stampin’ Dimensionals. To finish it off I added a few of the smallest Rhinestone Basic Jewels.

Winterly Tree Tops

I can’t wait to use all the Winterly Tree Tops dies! Especially since I thing they will die cut some of the images in the Designer Series Paper Pack.

Colouring with Winterly Tree Tops

I just love these cute little birds and am so excited to be crafting with them! And of course I couldn’t resist colouring with Winterly Tree Tops either. For this first card I’m colouring with Stampin’ Up!s Watercolour Pencils. It’s definitely on my radar to dig out my Stampin’ Blends at some point.

This week I seem to be into Crumb Cake and Coastal Cabana as my colour combination. I’m definitely a fan of pairing blues and browns, so why not these two?! I’m using Coastal Cabana as my card base and then layering on a piece of patterned paper from the Nests of Winter Designer Series Paper pack for my card mat.

On top of that I layered some Basic White and more Coastal Cabana cardstock. But not before I added a sentiment in Crumb Cake ink on one piece. With the other piece I stamped the image of the two birds on a branch using Crumb Cake ink. Usually I use Tuxedo Black Memento ink when I’m colouring. But since I’m not using my Stampin’ Blends I thought it’d be a nice, subtle alternative. Then I coloured the branch with the Early Espresso Watercolour Pencil. The berries are Cherry Cobbler and the birds are, of course, Coastal Cabana. I coloured the beaks with Brushed Curry. To smooth out any lines from my colouring, I went over it all with a Blender Pen. Then to finish it off, I popped up the sentiment and then added a few Rhinestone Basic Jewels.

Colouring with Winterly Tree Tops

This is such a fun suite to craft with! And I can’t wait to pull out the dies as well as do some more colouring with Winterly Tree Tops.
