Tool and Embellishment Organization

If you’ve seen some of my previous posts you know that my craft area is a bit of a mess! I think that’s true for most of us crafters. But I like to have things organized so it’s like my craft area is a bit like the Bermuda Triangle. I love shopping for containers and things to organize my craft stash. And I enjoy DIY organization projects. I reorganized my inkpads not that long ago, check that out here. Now I’m sharing the tool and embellishment organization I did recently.

Just about all the larger pieces I use to organize my craft supplies are from IKEA. I love going there and to the local dollar store! There’s always lots of great colourful options and it’s not going to break my budget. In my office/craft space I have a 2×2 KALLAX unit. I already have my stamp sets organized into a 2 drawer unit in one of the squares. The challenge has been to figure out the other 3 squares.

I knew that I wanted to split the 2 bottom squares in half, but it took me a while to find what I needed. Eventually I found it at IKEA, of course. Somehow I missed these when I first got the unit or maybe they didn’t have them… who knows?! But they work perfectly.

Tool and Embellishment ORganization

For the one shelf with my punches, I glued some white felt to the top of the shelf. The punches are pretty heavy duty and so I wanted an extra layer of protection. Then I’ve got my Stampin’ Blends, adhesives and embossing powders underneath, along with some of my Stampin’ Spots and pencil case.

On the other side I’ve got a box full of stationary stuff… post it notes, extra note pads, etc. Above that I put my Heat Tool and tray and paper piercing templates. The colourful boxes next to my Heat Tool are different embellishments. Those are a DIY storage project using some retired Designer Series Paper and the full sized wood cases. I so wish I would have grabbed some more before they were gone!

It was really easy to do once I had the measurements for the case pockets. Now that I’ve done my tool and embellishment organization, it’s on to my paper. I think I’ve left that til last because I know it’s going to be a thing. I’m hoping that I can find someone local who can make what I want instead of having to spend a bunch to ship something from the US. Wish me luck!

Countdown to Halloween

We’re doing a countdown to Halloween in our house! Since this year is going to look very different I thought I would do something a little different. My munchkins love Halloween and have already been decorating the house. So just in case we’re not able to go trick or treating I thought I would convert my Christmas Countdown project kit into one for Halloween. It was super easy to do and I love the Magic is in the Night Designer Series Paper!

To start I picked a bunch of different designs from the Magic is in the Night DSP pack. I wanted to make sure I had enough options to spread out the designs. Then I cut them down to fit the front of the boxes.

To make sure I didn’t cover up the groove in the top of the box I used one of the Stitched Shapes circle dies. I also used one of these dies to cut out all my numbers. The numbers came from a retired stamp set I have for just such a project, but you can use whatever you have. I stamped the numbers in Blackberry Bliss and Cajun Craze ink; alternating between odd and even numbers.

Then of course I had to fill them with something. While my munchkins enjoy some of the Halloween chocolates/treats, they really love gummies. So I went to my local Bulk Barn to get some different Halloween themed gummies. I did also pick up a box of chocolates. Since I have two munchkins and I wasn’t about to make one for each of them I had to be strategic in my treat choices. The gummies of course fit no problem. As for the rest I was able to put in 2 packages of Rockets, M & Ms and Kit Kat bars. If you only have to fit in one you’d likely be able to fit in a single Coffee Crisp or box of Smarties.

My munchkins have been really enjoying their countdown. Here’s how it turned out…

Countdown to Halloween

I love how easy this was and so I think I might have to do something like this for their next birthdays!

I’m having an online class using the Christmas Countdown project kit and there’s still time to RSVP. So if you live in Canada and would like some more information check out my upcoming classes and events. The deadline to RSVP is November 3rd and you can always email me with any questions; inkspirationwithteresa@gmail.com.

DIY Craft Storage

I found a shelving unit on a neighbour’s curb recently and decided to do a little DIY craft storage! I don’t know about you, but I never seem to have enough storage. As a crafter I always have a big stash of different supplies. I also do a lot of projects for my munchkins birthdays so there’s a real mix of stuff in our basement. So, as I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one, I thought I would share what I did with you all.

A couple of weeks ago when I was driving home a shelf unit on a neighbour’s curb. So once I dropped off my munchkins I circled back to take a closer look. I told myself if it was in good shape, and still there, I would grab it. And it was! The unit’s previous owners used it to hold jewelry and hair accessories… I found a few hairpins and an earring in a couple of the baskets. It also looked like they tried to paint it, but didn’t get very far. Here’s what it looked like when I found it…

I’m not sure why they didn’t just give it a couple more coats of paint, but it worked out for me. Here are the baskets that it came with…

I love the natural look of the dark wicker baskets. Plus they’re a good size so they’ll work to hold just about any of my craft supplies.

First thing I did was spray down the baskets and wipe down the shelves. Then I put on a few more coats of white paint. This was super easy to do because my husband paints as his side-gig, so there’s always paint and rollers around.

Here’s the full finished unit…

DIY Craft Storage

I think it turned out nicely. Now all I have to do is fill the baskets, which will be no problem. The question is will this finally be enough storage. Fingers crossed!

If you like my DIY craft storage then check out the card display board I spruced up. I used a bit more than just paint on that one.
