Goodbye to Dahlia Days

The clock is ticking as we get closer to summer, warmer weather and of course the end of the January-June Mini catalogue. I’m always sad when Stampin’ Up! releases it’s list of retiring products. But at least that doesn’t last that long as there are new goodies on the way! In the meantime I’m sharing some projects over the next few weeks featuring some of the products that will soon no longer be available. This week I’m saying goodbye to Dahlia Days! I have been having so much fun crafting with this bundle. This is definitely one that I’m particularly sad to see retiring. I just love the images and phrases… this might be one that I hold on to even after it’s retired.

Anyway… for this card I wanted to show off both the stamp set and the coordinating dies. For my colour combination I used Petal Pink, Pear Pizzazz and Crumb Cake. Petal Pink is such a nice soft pink and Pear Pizzazz has become my go to colour when I’m stamping leaves, etc. The Crumb Cake is a nice, soft neutral colour to help the others pop.

Once I stamped my large dahlias and leaves I cut them out using the coordinating dies. For the phrase and smaller flowers I used one of the smaller Layering Circles dies. Then behind it all I used the more detailed die with some Basic White cardstock. I thought about using some Sponge Daubers to add some colour to the detailed die cut, but I like the simplicity of this. Plus it doesn’t take away from the other stamped images which I popped up using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

To add a little something more to this card I added some of the Petal Pink cotton ribbon from the Cotton Ribbon Combo pack. (this ribbon is retiring as well) And of course I needed to add a little bit of bling. But in this case I added a few of the largest Brushed Brass Butterflies.

I’m so sad that I have to say goodbye to Dahlia Days. If you love this stamp set too then make sure to head over to my online shop before it’s sold out. The sale is only on until June 30th!

Book Fold Card

I wasn’t sure what I wanted to share here this week. But I knew that I wanted to do something different than my usual card design. So as I was thinking about options, the idea of making a Book Fold Card popped into my head. I’ve done this fold once or twice before, but I think this may become a fun and easy go to for me. Usually a Z-fold card is my go-to, but it’s always nice to have options! Here’s a modified Z-Fold card I made a while back.

For this design I used the Dahlia Days stamp set from the January-June Mini Catalogue. With all the excitement of the new Annual Catalogue you don’t want to forget about these guys! And the phrase comes from the Friends are like Seashells stamp set. For my colour combination, I used Crumb Cake for the card base and Petal Pink for the card mat and stamping. I also threw in a splash of Pear Pizzazz for the leaves.

To create the card base you’ll need a piece of cardstock that’s 4 1/4″ x 11″ scored at 5 1/2″ AND 4 1/2″. Adding some Tear & Tape Adhesive on the inside in between the two score lines is what gives you the book fold. Then from here you can add whatever you like! I added some Petal Pink cardstock that I embossed using the Painted Texture 3D embossing folder.

To step it up even further I added some of the Petal Pink Cotton Ribbon and cut out the stamped images and phrase using the Stitched Rectangles dies. Then I popped these up with some Stampin’ Dimensionals and of course added some bling!

This Book Fold Card turned out so pretty I may have a hard time giving it away! Lol!

The Impossible Card

It’s time for another Fancy Fold Design team blog hop! This month we’re taking on the Impossible Card! And don’t worry the name makes it sounds more difficult than it really is. Once you have the measurements this is a fun and simple card to re-create. Dawn Griffith, a US demonstrator, has a good video and she shares the measurements. You can check that out here.

For my design I wanted to show off the Vellum Layering Designs from the January-June Mini catalogue. So for my base colour I went with something darker to really help the design pop. I thought that Just Jade, which is retiring once supplies run out, would work well. It’s a deeper green, but not too dark. For my other colour I chose Petal Pink. A nice soft colour to compliment the Just Jade and it’s a nice Spring colour combination.

To add some layers on top of the vellum I added a strip of Just Jade cardstock to keep the card base still and then some of the Meadows dies pieces. I had to trim a few of the pieces, but that’s easy enough to do. It was a little tricky getting these into place because I adhered the die cut pieces to the vellum before I adhered the vellum to the card base. But I wanted to make sure that I didn’t have glue showing.

The phrase came from the In the Moment stamp set. And the flowers came from the Dahlia Days stamp set. Then I added a few of the smallest Rhinestone Basic Jewels to the centres of my flowers. Gotta add some bling! Here’s my card…

Handmade Card for Spring

I couldn’t resist when I saw this week’s vertical sketch challenge from the Paper Craft Crew (PCC 462). As soon as I saw it I knew I had to use the Dahlia Days stamp set to make a handmade card for Spring. Here’s the sketch…

For my colours I chose Petal Pink and Pear Pizzazz. That’s a lot of Ps, lol! These are such nice, bright Spring colours, so I thought they’d work well. I knew I wanted to use the large dahlia image for the main focus. But for the other pieces in the sketch I went back and forth between using smaller flowers or leaves. In the end I decided to use the leaves and some other foliage as a kind of background. Then I added a few more small bunches of flower to bring in more Petal Pink.

To really make the larger flowers pop I die cut them using the coordinating dies and then used some Stampin’ Dimensionals to pop them up. Then I added some Pearl Basic Jewels to the centres of the smaller die cut flowers. I debated about adding a phrase to the card, but thought I’d keep this a simple handmade card for Spring. Dahlia Days

Now that Sale-a-bration is over I can spend more time with the January-June Mini Catalogue. One of my favourites from the Mini is the Dahlia Days bundle! The stamp set is so pretty and the phrases are too. Plus the coordinating dies are awesome! There are the dies that go with the stamp set and then there’s a large decorative die.

I wanted to make a card to show off this decorative die. And so that was my starting point for this card design. I thought about a few options to do this and ended up using some Basic White cardstock behind the Highland Heather die cut. It really helps the details pop. Then for the card base I wanted to use a green. I love combining greens and purples! I decided to use Just Jade because it’s such a nice shade of green. I’ll miss it when it retires in a few weeks.

To adhere the die cut I used Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue. But Mini Glue Dots would have worked too. On top of that I added some of the Just Jade Gingham ribbon from the Flowers for Every Season Ribbon Combo pack. And then I stamped a phrase from the stamp set using Just Jade ink and cut it out with one of the Layering Circles dies. To finish is off I popped up the phrase with some Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals and added a Rhinestone Basic Jewel.

I love this decorative die from the Dahlia Days bundle! It’s one I’ll definitely be using again. I’m thinking for a Mother’s Day card.
