Colouring with Winterly Tree Tops

I just love these cute little birds and am so excited to be crafting with them! And of course I couldn’t resist colouring with Winterly Tree Tops either. For this first card I’m colouring with Stampin’ Up!s Watercolour Pencils. It’s definitely on my radar to dig out my Stampin’ Blends at some point.

This week I seem to be into Crumb Cake and Coastal Cabana as my colour combination. I’m definitely a fan of pairing blues and browns, so why not these two?! I’m using Coastal Cabana as my card base and then layering on a piece of patterned paper from the Nests of Winter Designer Series Paper pack for my card mat.

On top of that I layered some Basic White and more Coastal Cabana cardstock. But not before I added a sentiment in Crumb Cake ink on one piece. With the other piece I stamped the image of the two birds on a branch using Crumb Cake ink. Usually I use Tuxedo Black Memento ink when I’m colouring. But since I’m not using my Stampin’ Blends I thought it’d be a nice, subtle alternative. Then I coloured the branch with the Early Espresso Watercolour Pencil. The berries are Cherry Cobbler and the birds are, of course, Coastal Cabana. I coloured the beaks with Brushed Curry. To smooth out any lines from my colouring, I went over it all with a Blender Pen. Then to finish it off, I popped up the sentiment and then added a few Rhinestone Basic Jewels.

Colouring with Winterly Tree Tops

This is such a fun suite to craft with! And I can’t wait to pull out the dies as well as do some more colouring with Winterly Tree Tops.

Summer Themed Birthday Card

Yes September is here. And yes Fall is less than two weeks away. But I’m still enjoying the warm summer weather. I think that’s where the inkspiration came from for today’s card. Plus I wanted to do some colouring! So that’s where I started… with the stamped image I wanted to colour. The In the Moment works great for this summer themed birthday card. I love all the images in this stamp set, but to keep with a summer theme there was only one choice.

Then I picked my colour combination. I love blues and browns together and they’re a great combo for summer too! I used Crumb Cake as my base colour; the card base and the specs of sand behind all the other elements. Then I have 3 different blues. The blues are Bermuda Bay, Coastal Cabana and Pool Party. I liked the idea of the shades going from dark to light and so I simply used some strips of the different shades.

The image in the centre is stamped with Crumb Cake and then coloured with the Watercolour Pencils. I used Early Espresso from the first assortment. And Coastal Cabana and Cherry Cobbler from the second. I added a Pool Party scalloped circle behind it (using the Layering Circles dies) and popped them up with Stampin’ Dimensionals. The phrase is from the Happiness Abounds stamp set and I stamped in with Pool Party ink. Before I popped it up I die cut it using the Stitched Rectangles dies. And to finish it off I added a few of the blue-green Faux Sea Glass Shapes.

Summer Themed Birthday Card

I really like how this summer themed birthday card turned out! And I might need to add to my cardstock stash so I can do something similar with some Fall colours.

#SimpleStamping Birthday Card

For this month’s #SimpleStamping challenge Stampin’ Up! is looking for a #SimpleStamping birthday card using stamps, ink, paper and a Sale-a-bration item. I’ve been having a lot of fun crafting with some of the Sale-a-bration products so I’m excited for this challenge. Especially since it gives me the chance to use these super cute hippos again! Check out one of my other cards using the Hippest Hippos here.

For this card I’m using a nice bright colour for my card base, Coastal Cabana. And Smoky Slate for my hippos. Then to make this a birthday card I’m pairing the Hippest Hippos from the Sale-a-bration catalogue with the Penguin Place stamp set from the July-December Mini catalogue.

I wanted the hippo to be the main focus for the card so I framed it with some more Coastal Cabana cardstock and popped it up with some Stampin’ Dimensionals. The “happy birthday” is also framed and popped up. Behind these I stamped a nice simple background. I used Coastal Cabana for the balloons and Smoky Slate for the presents.

#SimpleStamping Birthday Card

Both these stamp sets are super cute! And I love how they worked together to create this #SimpleStamping birthday card.

To step this card up you can add some Wink of Stella Glitterbrush to one or more of the balloons. And you could colour in the hippos using Stampin’ Blends or Watercolour pencils. Adding some bling is another easy way to step this card up and there are so many options to choose from.

Check out the Hippest Hippos and the other Sale-a-bration products over in my online shop. Sale-a-bration ends on August 31st, but don’t wait til then to put in your order things are already starting to sell out!

Watercolour Background

There are so many ways that you can use watercolouring to make great looking projects. I think that’s why I’ve been loving celebrating World Watercolour month. For this card I decided to create a watercolour background. It’s so easy and looks so pretty. You can even use more than one colour to give it a different look.

In this case I thought of making a summery/beach themed card. The In the Moment stamp set has a great image for this and it’s great for any kind of colouring. And of course I had to use the Friends are like Seashells stamp set. For my colour combination I used Coastal Cabana and Crumb Cake. I wanted something a little brighter than Pool Party which is what I usually use. And the Crumb Cake is great for some tone on tone stamping to create a sandy look.

Before I started my watercolour background I stamped my main image on to a piece of Fluid 100 Watercolour paper using Tuxedo Black Memento ink. Once that was dry I used my ink colours and water painters to colour the image in. Then I used more Coastal Cabana ink and my water painter to fill in the background all around the image.

The layers on top of this piece are nice and simple. I cut out the phrase using one of the smallest Stitched Rectangles dies and fussy cut the seashells. These ones are pretty easy to do that with. Then I popped them all up using some Stampin’ Dimensionals. I thought about adding some bling with the Wink of Stella Glitterbrush, but decided not to.

Diamond Z-Fold Card

Fancy Folds Design Team

It’s that time of the month… time for a Fancy Fold Design Team blog hop! This month we’re making a Diamond Z-Fold card. I love the look of this card! It’s so neat! To see it step by step, check out this video from Jan, a Stampin’ Up! demo from the UK. She has a couple great tips and all the measurements you’ll need to make your own.

For my design as soon as I saw this fun fold I knew I wanted to use the Happiness Abounds suite. I just LOVE this Designer Series Paper… so pretty and so colourful! This is a great card to show off a couple of the designs. But with so many great designs to choose from I needed to pick my colour combination first. I went with Coastal Cabana as my base colour. It’s such a nice bright colour, but not too overpowering. Next I choose a design that had that colour along with a few others; Fresh Freesia, Gorgeous Grape, Melon Mambo and more. The other design is simply the flip side of the first one.

On top of each of the diamonds I have flowers from this same stamp set. To start I stamped them in Tuxedo Black Memento ink on some Basic White cardstock. Then I coloured them with Watercolour Pencils and softened it with a Blender Pen. Then I cut them out with the coordinating dies. The phrase comes from the Happiness Abounds stamp set and I cut it out with one of the Stitched Rectangles dies. Which I popped up with a few Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I love how my Diamond Z-Fold card turned out! This is such a fun fold to make. To keep hopping around the world check out Mette’s card here.

Colourful Handmade Cards

It’s been a while since I shared my card for a recent team card swap. So I thought it was high time that I shared some of the colourful handmade cards I got. This team card swap is for the January-June Mini catalogue and so we needed to feature one of the stamp sets from it. After that we could use whatever we wanted to coordinate with it. Check out my card here.

This first card is made by Laura Seki. I always love her designs! This cards uses the Rainbow of Happiness bundles with Coastal Cabana and Real Red. She also used the Gingham Embossing folder and added a bit of Basic Black twine. That black twine is such a nice touch. The fun part about this card is that just the bottom half opens up. So the Basic White border around the Real Red cardstock in actually on the inside.

Colourful Handmade Cards

This other card is made by Lisa Gardner and uses one of my favourite colours… Highland Heather. It’s such a pretty shade of purple! The Tulips Fields bundle is a fun one. You can create some fun scenes with it. And if you use a brad the windmill blades will turn! In this card, Lisa used one of the Pastel Pearls and the windmill blades are in Early Espresso. She also sponged the edges of the cardstock with the phrase and popped it up with a couple of Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Colourful Handmade Cards

I always love joining our team card swaps! They’re such a great way to spark some inkspiration and see how others use stamp sets, etc. that I don’t have. And these colourful handmade cards are a great example of that and some of my favourites from this card swap. Remember to check out my card from this swap here. And if you want to get in on the fun then join my team! Here’s the link.

Fun with #SimpleStamping

A new month, means a new challenge! I have a lot of fun with #SimpleStamping. Sometimes it’s trickier than others, especially when it’s only stamps, ink and paper. But it does help when we’re able to add a little something more to our designs. This month’s challenge is to use stamps, ink, paper and an embellishment to make any kind of card we want.

When I saw “embellishment”, one of my first ideas was to pair the Faux Sea Glass Shapes with the Friends are like Seashells stamp set. I love this stamp set because of the gorgeous images, but also the phrases. Plus you can easily layer the images which comes in handy when you’re doing #SimpleStamping.

From here I picked my colours. I wanted to use the more blue sea glass pieces, so I picked Coastal Cabana. It’s such a pretty blue and the name goes so well with the theme of my card! The other colour I chose was Crumb Cake. It’s a nice light brown and I think makes a nice beach/sand colour.

For the images I started with the largest ones first and then worked to fill in the spaces with the smaller images. The specs of sand was the last stamp I used. Then to highlight the phrase I framed it with some Coastal Cabana cardstock and popped it up with some Stampin’ Dimensionals. And then of course I added a few Faux Sea Glass Shapes. There were still a few gaps, so this worked great to fill in the space, but not overwhelm the design.

Fun with #SimpleStamping

I’m not exactly sure who I’m going to give this card to, but I love how it turned out! I do always have fun with #SimpleStamping… even when it’s a little trickier. It’s nice to do something different… something outside your comfort zone every once in a while.
