Blending Brushes

I totally have a new favourite tool! Before this I liked the idea of sponging and blending to create great projects, but didn’t do it very often. I think that’s going to change now. I’ve only used Stampin’ Up!s new Blending Brushes twice now, but I’ve fallen in love with them! The first time I used one of them I made my own Shimmer paper. This time I used them with our ink pads.

These are super easy to use and even easier to clean, if you choose to. I’ve heard some of my team members clean them like the Blender Pens. So you rub it on paper until no more colour comes off. When I made my shimmer paper I decided to clean it with just some water. I didn’t like the idea of Shimmer Paint drying onto my brush. It came off very easily and the brush was just as soft once it dried as it was before I used it.

For this card I thought it would neat to create a border around the edge of a piece of Basic White cardstock using the flower from the Tasteful Touches cling stamp set. I used Tuxedo Black Memento ink and gave it some time to dry before I started to blend with the brushes.

In terms of colours I thought of using a bright blue and then a yellow like the centre of a flower. So I went with Bermuda Bay and Bumblebee. I haven’t used this colour combination before and I think they work really nicely together. Definitely going to have to file this combination away!

So once my stamped flowers were dry I used my ink pad lids to hold the ink for my brushes. All you have to do to do that is squish the lid towards the ink pad while it’s still mostly closed. Once the ink is on the lid you just rub the brush in the ink. Make sure to dab off some of the colour onto another piece of paper before blending. You can even start blending off the cardstock and move in. To blend just move the brush in circles wherever you want that colour to go.

The phrase came from the Waterfront stamp set. I cut it out with one of the Stitched Nested Labels dies and then popped it up using a couple of Stampin’ Dimensionals. To finish it off I added some Braided Linen Trim. Here’s the full card…

I LOVE how this card turned out! And I can’t wait to do more with Stampin’ Up!s Blending Brushes. So stay tuned for future projects.

Tic Tac Toe Challenge

This week’s Paper Craft Crew Challenge (PCC412) is a different kind of challenge. Usually it’s a sketch challenge, but every once in a while they throw out a theme or in this case a Tic Tac Toe challenge. So how this works is that you choose any 3 squares going down, across or diagonal for your design elements. Here’s what we had to choose from…

For my card I went with the row going down on the right. So a feminine thank you card using Designer Series Paper. From here I dug through my DSP packs to see what would work. I ended up going with the Paper Blooms pack from the current Sale-a-bration catalogue. That made it easy to check off 2 of the 3 boxes.

The “thank you” came from the Timeless Tropical stamp set. I really liked the font and thought that it would work nicely with a feminine theme. I cut it out with the smallest circle from the Stitched Shapes dies and then popped it up with a Stampin’ Dimensional.

To compliment the DSP I used the “A Touch of Ink” stamp set for my stamped images. For my colour combination I went with Rococo Rose and Pear Pizzazz (I can’t believe that Rococo Rose will be retiring in just a few weeks). And to finish it off I used some of the Seaside Spray Metallic ribbon and added a few Rhinestone Basic Jewels. I always have to add some bling to my cards!

Paper Pumpkin Valentines

Happy February everyone! I can’t believe that Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. I’ve been squirreling away a few treats when I’ve managed to get out of the house over the past week or so. Thankfully my munchkins haven’t found my stash yet! I also have been making cards to give to family. And for the most part I’ve been making Paper Pumpkin Valentines. The Sending Hearts kit is so cute and I’ve been having fun crafting with it.

Usually I just make Valentines for my family, but this year I wanted to do something different. So on top of those Valentines I’m also going to send out some Valentines to some women in a group I joined almost a year ago. With everything going on random acts of kindness has become even more important. These fairies share sunshine throughout Ontario and I’m glad to be a part of this group. Here’s a peek at a couple of the Valentines I’ve made so far…

I’m looking forward to adding a few goodies to these and mailing these out later this week! I hope that these Paper Pumpkin Valentines bring a smile to people’s faces. And I know that my munchkins will love the treats I’ve got stashed away. I just hope they don’t find it between now and then. Keep your fingers crossed!

I’ve still got some supplies from the Sending Hearts kit, so I’ll need to figure out what else I make with them. Maybe more Valentines or maybe a home decor piece.

Embossing Again

Every once in a while I get into a bit of a zone with my crafting. In some respects this is nice, but sometimes I completely forget about other techniques, etc. that I could be using. Somehow lately I haven’t been using my embossing folders. So this past week I’ve been getting back into embossing again. And I’m so glad that I did. Using different embossing folders is a great, and easy, way to add a little something extra to your projects.

Earlier this week I shared a project using one of the new mini embossing folders; you can check that out here. For this card I wanted to use my favourite stamp set from the Sale-a-bration catalogue, “A Touch of Ink”. And I haven’t used the hummingbird image yet so that’s where I started with my design.

From there I pulled in the Rectangle Stitched dies to frame the hummingbird and the phrase, which came from the Quite Curvy stamp set. And I thought that it’d be nice to use the large leaf image from the “A Touch of Ink” stamp set and do some tone on tone stamping with Just Jade.

Then to add a little something more to the piece of stamped Just Jade cardstock I used the Painted Texture 3D embossing folder. Here’s a close up to give you a good look at the effect it gives…

You might also be able to see that I added some Wink of Stella to my hummingbird. I love how it looks on projects, but it doesn’t really come through in photos. 🙁

For my hummingbird I stamped in Seaside Spray first to give a darker outline. Then once it was dry I stamped using Pool Party to match the card base. I also stamped a bunch of the smaller leaf image from the “A Touch of Ink” stamp set using Just Jade to fill in some open space and bring it all together.

I popped up the hummingbird and the phrase with some Stampin’ Dimensionals. And then on top of the Wink of Stella, I added a few Rhinestone Basic Jewels to finish it off. Here’s the full card…

Stamping Tips

I’ve been scrapbooking and stamping for quite a while and I STILL get stuck for ideas. So like most crafters I’ve got lots of pictures of cards and projects for inkspiration. I’m also learning new things all the time. New folds, stamping techniques and other helpful tips. And I love sharing my projects and stamping tips with others!

I share a bunch of this on my Facebook page, along with other fun posts. But the best place to get the inside scoop from me is in my weekly email newsletter. Every week I share something to help with adding a little something more to your projects or taking care of your stamping tools. I also share share tricks with the hope that it’ll make crafting a bit easier.

Two Fold Panel Card

I’m excited to join the Fancy Fold Design Team for another bog hop this month! This month we’re making a Two Fold Panel Card. It’s an easy card to make and it looks really neat. Claire Ottaway, a UK demonstrator, shares a video to show the step by steps for this card. I’ve also created a basic PDF with the measurements and instructions if you’d like to try this yourself. Make sure to grab it at the end of this post!

For my design I ended up using the Sweet Ice Cream stamp set and Ice Cream Corner Designer Series Paper. I’m just loving this suite of products! The paper is so colourful and there are some fun designs. Plus the stamp set with coordinating punch is so fun. Once I figured out these pieces I came up with my colour combination. I went with Purple Posy and Cinnamon Cider, both of which are current In Colours… although Purple Posy will be leaving soon 🙁

For my card base and belly band I used Purple Posy. I also used a piece of Cinnamom Cider to frame the ice cream cone on the belly band. For the ice cream cone itself I used Crumb Cake and Cinnamon Cider for the cone and then Purple Posy for the ice cream, using a Stampin’ Write Marker.

For the patterned paper, I chose 3 different designs. And I love how well they work together! I debated about adding a fourth design on the inside of the card. But I decided to use the same design filled with ice cream cones that I used on the outside.

Since I went with a simple ice cream cone on my belly band I decided to add a phrase to the inside of the card. I used Purple Posy and Cinnamon Cider for the phrases.

This was a really fun card to make. And I really like how this Two Fold Panel Card turned out. Here’s the full card…

A #simplestamping Rainbow

It’s been a while since I’ve joined one of Stampin’ Up!s #simplestamping challenges. So when I saw this month’s challenge I decided to get back into it. This month’s challenge is to create a card using only stamps, ink and paper along with a Sale-a-bration item. My card is a #simplestamping rainbow of sorts.

I’ve been enjoying creating with the A Touch of Ink stamp set and when I saw this challenge this idea immediately popped into my head. I love when that happens, don’t you?! This stamp set is my favourite from the Sale-a-bration catalogue. I love all the images and the phrases make this set so versatile. I’m definitely looking forward to crafting more with this one!

The original design was tweaked a little bit. Initially I thought I would do this as a smaller card, but then I changed it to a slimline card to really get the full effect that I wanted. I used Basic Black for the card base and didn’t use a coloured mat to really help my rainbow pop.

It took a little bit of time to come up with all the colours for this card. I didn’t want to use the same colour and stamp off. So I chose a darker and lighter shade for each of the flowers. The range of colours Stampin’ Up! has made this pretty easy.

To space out the flowers as evenly as possible I stamped the two outer ones first. Then I stamped the two in the centre of the card and filled in the spaces with the last two. Doing it this way also helped give the darker outline images a bit more time to dry before I “filled” them in. The phrase I stamped with Tuxedo Black Memento ink. Here’s the full card…

This was such a fun challenge! And I really love how my card turned out. It’s going to be hard to give this one away. I hope that you enjoyed my card making a #simplestamping rainbow too.

Catalogues are Here!

The new January-June Mini and Sale-a-bration catalogues are here! Which means that there’s lots of new Stampin’ Up! products to get crafty with. This project shows off 2 of the free and exclusive products from the Sale-a-bration catalogue. If you’re not sure what Sale-a-bration is all about, you need to check this blog post out.

For this card I knew that I wanted to use the A Touch of Ink stamp set. I LOVE butterflies so when I saw this in the Sale-a-bration catalogue it was the first thing on my list! To go with it I decided to use some of the Paper Blooms Designer Series Paper. Then once I picked the design I wanted it was pretty easy to pick the colour combination. Seaside Spray is one of my favourite In Colours from this bunch and will be so sad once it’s gone in a few months. I haven’t used Rococo Rose as much but it looks so pretty on this paper and goes well with Seaside Spray.

So I used Seaside Spray for my card base and the Rococo Rose came from the DSP. I also used it as one of my ink colours; for the phrase on the outside and the image on the inside. For the leaves on the left side of the card I used Pear Pizzazz. I stamped off onto a scrap piece of paper before “filling in” the butterfly and leaf images. That really helps the outline of the image pop. For whatever reason I didn’t do that when I stamped a Rococo Rose flower on the inside of the card and really wished that I had.

The phrase for this card actually comes from the Timeless Tulips stamp set from the Annual Catalogue. I framed this with some Seaside Spray and popped it up with a couple of Stampin’ Dimensionals. Then I added a bit of bling with one of my favourite go-tos… the Rhinestone Basic Jewels.

I really like how this card turned out and am excited to stamp some more with A Touch of Ink!

Sale-a-bration 2021

The new January-June Mini catalogue is here! But more importantly Sale-a-bration 2021 is here!! Surprise Window Card

It’s the last Fancy Fold Design Team Blog Hop of 2020! I’ve been having a lot of fun creating different fancy folds since joining the hop earlier this year. This month we’re making a Surprise Window Card. It’s a really simple card to make and looks really neat. Here’s a video showing a few examples. I’ve created a basic project sheet with measurements and instructions if you want to make your own, so make sure to scroll to the end!

I bounced around a few different ideas for my card. Initially I thought of using the Sweet Ice Cream stamp set from the upcoming new catalogue. But instead I went with the Dragonfly Garden stamp set, which is also from the new catalogue. I really like this stamp set, but for whatever reason I haven’t crafted much with it since I got it for OnStage back in November. I’m hoping that will change over the next little bit.

I also wanted to use the Dandy Garden 6×6 Designer Series Paper for this project so that helped me figure out my colour combination. It started with a piece of Blackberry Bliss DSP and so I went with Mossy Meadow for my other colour. From there I added in a few dragonflies that I punched out from another piece of DSP using the Dragonflies punch. I also stamped a few small ones in the background using some Crumb Cake ink. Here’s that flap of my card…

For the other inner most flap I just stamped a phrase from the Dragonfly Garden stamp set using Blackberry Bliss ink. Here it is to give you a sense of the card fully opened…

So for the front of the card I used that piece of Blackberry Bliss DSP. Then to create my window I used one of the Stitched Nested Labels dies. I initially thought of embossing the front of the card as well and kind of wish I had (next time). I popped up my “for you” from the Beauty Abounds stamp set with some Stampin’ Dimensionals. And then added a few of the Ladybug Trinkets. To adhere those to the card front I just cut a Mini Dimensional in half and squished it inside.

I really like how my Surprise Window card turned out. Those cute little ladybugs add a nice touch! I’m definitely going to have fun using those guys. To check out the next stop on this month’s blog hop check out Nadine Schweda’s project. And don’t forget to grab the project sheet below!

Joy to the World

Back in October Stampin’ Up!s Paper Pumpkin kit was all about connecting with people around the world. The Joy to the World kit had a holiday theme and came with die cuts in 3 different languages; English, French and German. I loved this idea because I have family in Germany and this would be a good opportunity for me to reconnect with them. I also loved this idea because Stampin’ Up! created a Facebook group to give people a chance to find pen pals from around the world. I connected with 4 other demonstrators; one from Australia, one from New Zealand, one from Germany and one from Japan.

Along with the gold die cuts, the kit also came with enough supplies to make 8 cards including envelopes. I love the Cherry Cobbler and Just Jade colour combination. Cherry Cobbler is such a great colour for the holidays and Just Jade is one of my favourites from the new In Colours. Plus the Crumb Cake card bases with gold design really helped these colours pop. Here’s a picture of the two original designs from the October kit along with two alternative designs that I created…

As much as I enjoy following the instructions, especially when I’m not sure what I want to make, I love coming up with different designs. Usually I make alternative card designs. Lately though I’ve also been making some home decor pieces like this 9 x 9 sampler. With this piece I also used the Poinsettia Petals bundle and a few of the Wonderful Gems. Both from the August-December Mini catalogue.

I also made a hand sanitizer container. You could probably also tuck a gift card in there too. For the ribbon I used the Cherry Cobbler Twine from the kit along with the Just Jade Gingham ribbon from the Flowers for Every Season combo pack.

I really enjoyed crafting with the Joy to the World kit. My cards to my family and pen pals are on their way. I hope they like them and hopefully my German is understandable. It’s been a while!

Merry Christmas

The past couple of weeks have been pretty hectic. There’s always lots to do to get ready for the holidays and finish up so I can take some time off from my “9 to 5”. We’re all set and so I wanted to take the time and wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I hope you all are doing well and are staying safe. And I hope that you’re able to enjoy the holidays in whatever way you can!

This year has definitely been a strange one. And the holidays are no different. This year we’re doing a quarantine so we can spend some time with both our parents. I can honestly say that I’ve never done that before.

So wherever you are and whatever your holiday looks like I wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Sweet Treats

I’m slowly starting to get into my stash of products from the upcoming new catalogues. And I’m really looking forward to some time off from my “9 to 5” so that I can really have some fun! This card uses some of the sweet treats from the new Ice Cream Corner suite of products. When I saw these being demo’d at OnStage@Home this November I was totally wow’d! So of course when I did my pre-order I had to get my hands on some.

For this card design I wanted to pair the Sweet Ice Cream stamp set with the Ombre 6×6 Designer Series Paper. This pack of paper is one of the great products you can get for FREE during Sale-a-bration which kicks off next month. So that’s where I got my colour combination from. I used some of the Blackberry Bliss and Granny Apple Green DSP and so the cardstock and inks followed suit.

When I was going through the paper designs I decided to pick two different ones and have them be off-centre. I also liked the idea of showing a couple of the different designs. So I picked the circles and the plain ombre designs.

I added some Crumb Cake for the popsicle stick and cut it out using the Stitched Rectangle dies. Then I popped it up and the phrase using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Initially I was thinking that I would add some ribbon to this card, but when it came time it just didn’t fit. So I went with one of my other go-tos… bling! I added a few Rhinestone Basic Jewels to finish it off. I actually have a few more thank you cards to make so I may tweak this design a little bit. But overall I think it turned out nice!

Quite Curvy Bundle

I finally got the chance to start playing with the Quite Curvy bundle this week! Lately I’ve been pretty busy with making holiday cards to share and send out to family. Plus all the other things that need to be done to get ready for the holidays. So it was nice to finally be able to start crafting with these.

For the colour combination I decided to go with one of my favourites… purple and green. A bit of a change from all the blues and reds I’ve been using lately. In this case I used Purple Posy and Mint Macaron along with a splash of Mossy Meadow. Next I pulled out the dies to see what I felt like using to help with the design. There are some fun options with these dies and so for this first card I thought I would use two of the curved ones.

Once I cut out the designs I decided to layer the Mint Macaron and Mossy Meadow. I really like how these two greens compliment each other. I’m going to have to remember this combination.

From here I used a Purple Posy Stampin’ Write Marker to ink up a floral image. To add a bit more colour I thought it would be nice to have this “peeking out” from behind the die cut cardstock. I also used Purple Posy for one of the bird images. I stamped the phrase on a separate piece of Whisper White using Mint Macaron. Then I added a few Mossy Meadow leaves as well.

Finally I popped up the phrase using some Stampin’ Dimensionals. I debated about adding some rhinestones or some wood elements, but decided not to on this card.

Giant Year End Closeout!

It’s that time of year… Stampin’ Up! has released it’s lists of products from the August-December Mini catalogue that will be retiring! The Giant Year End Closeout sale starts today and these products will only be available while supplies last. There are some great products that are 50% so I’m guessing some things will sell out quickly.

If this is your first Year End Closeout here’s how it works. Each year around this time Stampin’ Up! makes two lists. One is a list of products that will be carrying over and will still be available once this mini catalogue is finished. The other is a list of products that won’t be coming back. This year’s lists are a little bit different because some of the products carrying over will be available right away in January, but others won’t be until the next August-December Mini catalogue. For now though the important thing to know is what’s retiring, so here’s the list…
